I'm visiting my parents for Easter, which means I can show you some of my vintage collection. All of these dresses I inherited from a woman who was selling her estate. They are custom made by her seamstress and have fantastic details. I'm kinda obsessed...

Had my job interview this morning - went okay I think but who ever knows. Then I rewarded myself with coffee and reading magazines without paying - yes I am a recessionista. I finally read the infamous LOVE magazine, as well as 10 - I love fashion magazines. Two books that I definitely recommend checking out are Style Icons, a collection of photos, bios, and interviews with stylish originals from all over - artists, people from the fashion industry, designers etc. Another great (but expensive) book is the Atlas of Fashion Designers - overviews, runway shots and CVs of great designers. Fantastic images and a range of well-known to simply talented designers. Fantastic!

I just discovered Iris Loeffler, whose draping skills and color palette are breaking my heart! I love the soft, flowy, sexy feel. Very earth goddess with an edge. Each piece seems so delicate but wearable - I would seriously float in these pieces. Stupid recession....

Boring post today: Not much to tell. Took an early morning train to Philly and hit up my favorite thrift store with very disappointing results. It was incredibly picked over - bah. Went to an antique store too and found a truly glamorous, porcelain inlaid vanity set: mirror, brush and comb.
I'm addicted to everyday elegance: things I use everyday. I love to be surrounded by beauty and would rather use my favorite things frequently, rather than lock them away for "special occasions". Objects in this category include not only fantastic clothes and accessories (but this is a MAJOR part), but good coffee, beautiful kitchenwares, luxurious blankets and lounge clothes, incense and candles. Just little things that make me happy and feel spoiled.

Sorry for the poor picture quality - extremely lazy day. I first off did not want to get dressed, never the less do anything. So I decided to wear a minimal amount of clothes, with the least effort. Channeling a dancer after practice...with a pretty tiara. The sweater is from a street stall in Paris, Shirt- Petit Bateau, Leggings - Pimkie, Flats - Steve Madden, Headband-DIY.
I'm headed to Philly tomorrow for a job interview - wish me luck! I hope to shop in the city as well. Hopefully I'll have some good finds to share with you all.

This, my darlings, is Chanel's Spring 2009 Haute Couture. After an initial viewing, I decided to take a moment to examine the details (because this is such a better idea than actually writing my thesis). Let me first say, that what I love best about couture is, not just the sheer fantasy of it all, but the amount of craftsmanship and patience that each season requires. The structure, seaming and beading must be perfection in couture by its very definition. The amount of time and effort that goes into each piece is mind-blowing. This holds especially true for Chanel's headdresses. Created entirely from white paper, these bouquets of flowers, feathers, birds and nests were sculpted by a Japanese hairstylist named Kamo and eight other artists - could you truly call them anything else? Honestly, I am in awe. This is what people mean when they say fashion is art.
